Thursday, February 24, 2011
Ida B. Wells was an activist for women’s rights and racial equity. As a teacher-turned-journalist in Memphis, she wrote for local newspapers (an article lambasting the Memphis Board of Education cost Ida her teaching job) and investigated incidents of lynching.
