Maynard Institute Celebrates 25 Years

INTRODUCTION

For a quarter of a century, the Maynard Institute has prepared journalists of all races to lead the news industry in an increasingly diverse society. Just consider the numbers: Some 700 reporters, editors, and executives have graduated from MIJE programs and are working at newspapers and television stations across the nation.

Another 700 people have gone through MIJE certificate programs such as Cross-Media or Fault Lines, making Maynard the nation’s largest provider of training for journalists of color in the country.

But the challenge remains as important today as when the institute was founded in 1973.

Read more about the impact that the institute and Robert C. Maynard have had on the journalism industry.

"It matters that those who lead the newsroom understand every facet of the community they cover. It is in seeing ourselves whole that we can begin to see ways of working out our differences, of understanding our similarities."
BOB MAYNARD [1978]
